An Intha Fisherman on Inle Lake in the Shan State of Myanmar
The Inle lake people, known as Intha, spend much of their life on water, practicing a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. Only the nearly incessant noise of the one-cylinder diesel powered boats, breaks the serenity of life on the lake. In the photo, an Intha fisherman uses the unique leg rowing technique, that has become an attraction for tourists in its own right. If you’re lucky, you might even get a chance to see the annual leg-rowing contest that is held in October or November.
